About the #IamaStranger campaign:
The #IamaStranger campaign, started by Ramon Razon, OFM and Christian Leo Seno, OFM, seeks to raise awareness and to advocate for our immigrant, migrant, and refugee brothers and sisters by reminding ourselves that welcoming the stranger is part of our call as disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me… whatever you did for one of these least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Jesus was a stranger and today Jesus is still a stranger – present in our immigrant and refugee brothers and sisters. We are saddened that so many are made to feel like strangers in this country. We are angered that so many are made to feel as if their lives don’t matter.
This campaign reminds us that Jesus is present in the stranger, immigrant, migrant, and refugee among us and that we are denying him welcome by denying welcome to people fleeing violence and terror.
As religious, as lay people, and as followers of Christ, we cast our lot with those who are considered least among us. #IamaStranger is our cry of solidarity with our immigrant, migrant, and refugee brothers and sisters.
