Happy Easter! ¡Felices Pascuas! Joyeuses Pâques!
I have neglected this blog because I have been focusing these past few months on completing my thesis. But now that I am almost complete, I wanted to take some time to share some photos from the Easter celebration at Saint Camillus Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. At the heart of my engagement with social justice is my relationship with God. These past few days have been sources of renewal and inspiration.
This was the offertory from the Easter Vigil at Saint Camillus Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. I thought a lot about how beautiful it was – the music and the dancing – but my heart was moved most by the diverse beauty and richness of the different cultures that make up our community. Immigrants, people of color, men, women, and children of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and economic stations make our community so much richer.
The offering of each culture’s textiles to create a multi-colored, multi-ethnic altar cloth was such an apt metaphor for how we can all come to the table of the Lord just as we are. What a beautiful message for our divided country right now.
The joy and exuberance of an Easter people! Below are some more photos from last night’s Easter Vigil.
