Come now, my Love

This past weekend, we attended Sr. Veronica de Jesus Amaya’s first Profession of Religious Vows into her community of Capuchin Poor Clares (OSC Cap.).  Held at Sacred Heart Oratory in Wilmington, DE, the beautiful ceremony included Veronica’s reception of the black veil, which replaces the while veil of the novice.  The black veil symbolizes her total consecration to Jesus Christ and her death from the world.
The church sang “Come now, my Love” from the Song of Songs during the Sign of Peace, wherein Sister Veronica was fully accepted and congratulated into her community.  The moment reached an emotional climax when Sr. Veronica was embraced by her mother and family, who had traveled from Latin America for the occasion.
“Come now, my love, my lovely one, come.
Come now, my love, my lovely one, come,
for see the winter is past, the snows are over and done.
The flowers appear in the fields,
the season of joyful song has come,
the cooing of the turtle dove is heard in our land.
Come now, my love, my lovely one, come.
Show me your face, let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet and your face so beautiful.
Come now, my love, my lovely one, come.
Show me your face, let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet and your face so beautiful.”
(Song of Songs, 2:10-14)
